A Tower fit for a Fairytale: Fairburn Tower Open Days

Fairburn Tower Open Days

Muir of Ord, Ross-shire

Saturday 7 - Sunday 8 September 2024, 10am to 4pm.

Pre-booking is required for this Open Day.

Book free tickets

Join us to explore Fairburn Tower on Saturday 7 - Sunday 8 September 2024 in association with Doors Open Days. Please ensure you select the correct time slot when booking your ticket.

Fairburn Tower is a rare survival from the Scottish Renaissance. Situated in beautiful Highland landscape, half an hour’s drive north-west of Inverness, Fairburn Tower was built around 1545 for Murdo Mackenzie, a favourite at the rich court of King James V and Mary of Guise. This free open day will be an opportunity to see inside our most recent Landmark restoration project and learn more about its history and restoration and leaflets on the building's history and children's activity sheets will be available on site. Please ensure that you pre-book via Eventbrite.

Please book a time slot for your arrival. Please note, that we will need to clear the building ready for the next group to arrive, so please arrive earlier in your time slot in order to have the maximum time to explore. Fairburn has steep spiral stairs, so we will also be restricting numbers up and down the stairs and in the rooms, so please arrive together with your group to ensure you can all look around together (max 10 people).

Open Day entry

Due to the historic nature of our buildings we have a limited capacity for our Open Day events. You may therefore be asked to wait a short time while other visitors finish their visit. Whilst booking is not essential, priority will be given to those who have booked in advance. Thank you for your co-operation.

Accessibility

Parking for this Landmark is limited and you will be directed to your space by a member of our team. Please arrive during your allocated time slot. The track to the building is rough with no passing places.

*Fairburn Tower is a small building with a tight spiral staircase so in order to keep visitors safe we will be limiting the number of people allowed in at one time; this could mean that if you arrive at a particularly busy time you may be asked to wait to gain entry.*

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you. Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.

We would be delighted if you felt able to add a gift to your booking today on Eventbrite. Donations can also be made on the day via contactless devices.
