The Mackintosh Building: Open Days

Comrie, Southern Highlands of Scotland

Saturday 14 - Sunday 15 September 2024, 10am-4pm.

Booking information to follow.

The Mackintosh Building sits in the centre of the beautiful village of Comrie, on the edge of the Scottish Highlands. The Landmark Trust is pleased to offer this very rare opportunity to visit a unique piece of Scottish architectural history.

The modest, first-floor flat was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh and dates from 1903–4, a time when he was doing his very best work. It was commissioned, by a local draper and ironmonger as a shop with a flat above and workrooms in the attics. The flat has spacious, airy rooms and touches of Mackintosh’s design flair are now seen around the apartment. The ground floor still operates as a shop space containing original fittings and is also owned by Landmark.

Admission is free, numbers are strictly limited. Information about the history and restoration of the building will be available. Dogs are not permitted at this open day.

The town of Comrie has lots to explore, including a circular walk around the local area.

Booking information

Unlike many of our other public open days, pre-booking is essential for this event via Eventbrite. Access is via timed entry. We anticipate that this event will be very popular and will be fully booked in advance. We cannot guarantee and therefore would not recommend travel without a ticket.

The first hour of each day, 10-11am will be reserved for local Comrie residents. We kindly ask you do not book these slots unless you live locally.

We will be operating a waiting list for this event and ask visitors booking far in advance to update the status of their visit if they can no longer attend.

Open Day entry

Due to the historic nature of our buildings we have a limited capacity for our Open Day events. You may therefore be asked to wait a short time while other visitors finish their visit. Whilst booking is not essential, priority will be given to those who have booked in advance. Thank you for your co-operation.

Accessibility

Limited parking is available locally in Comrie.

The house is accessed by a staircase and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you. Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.

Donations can be made to Landmark when booking tickets via Eventbrite and through contactless donation points at all of our Open Days.
