Lancaster Music Festival: The Music Room Open Days

Sun Street, Lancaster

Saturday 12 - Sunday 13 October 2024, 10am - 4pm

Free entry, pre-booking preferred via Eventbrite

 Booking information to follow.

We're proud to be taking part in the 14th edition of the Lancaster Music Festival this October, as one of 60 venues across the city with live performances across the weekend.

Like so many Landmarks, plenty of questions remain unanswered about the Music Room. It was built in about 1730 as a garden pavilion, probably for Oliver Marton, a prosperous lawyer of the Middle Temple, London.

Enjoy this rare chance to look around the lavish plastered interiors and afterwards perhaps enjoy a coffee break at The Music Room Coffee Shop below.

Information on the building's history and children's activity sheets will be available. Click here for location.

Lancaster Music Festival

One of the UK’s largest urban music festivals, Lancaster Music Festival is a grassroots festival that celebrates the wonderful diversity and quality of musicians and performers in the local area whilst also inviting acts from all over the globe. With over 400 performances from more than 300 artists - almost all of them free - plus street theatre and workshops, there's something for everyone to enjoy, no matter what age or musical taste. All events are easily walkable within the city centre, from the courtyard inside Lancaster Castle to cafés and coffee shops; through the city’s squares and outdoor spaces; and in the majority of the city's pubs and bars.

Open Day entry

Due to the historic nature of our buildings we have a limited capacity for our Open Day events. You may therefore be asked to wait a short time while other visitors finish their visit. Whilst booking is not essential, priority will be given to those who have booked in advance. Thank you for your co-operation.

Finding us

There is no parking on site, however Lancaster has many public car parks. It is possible at this site to drive up and drop off those with limited mobility.

Accessibility

Access to the Music Room itself is via a long set of stairs that may not be suitable for visitors with limited mobility.

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you. Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history first-hand, through our open days and free stays for study groups.
