The Gothic Temple is a splendid, historic folly built in the gardens at Stowe in 1741. Inside, the rooms are all circular with the main vault of the central space painted with heraldry and to be on the first-floor gallery is an important architectural experience.

Please note that whilst entrance to the Temple is free, entrance charges to Stowe Landscape Gardens for non-National Trust members do still apply. Please check their website for more details. Whilst booking is not essential we would ask that you register for the event via Eventbrite so that we can provide you with updates regarding the event.

Accessibility

Gothic Temple sits on a hill with a rough track leading to it, around 20 minute walk from the National Trust public car park. It may not be suitable for those with limited mobility.

Indoors, a steep and narrow staircase with a handrail leads up to the balcony level.

Open Days at Gothic Temple can be very busy and the building is not large.

We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or [email protected]. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.

Donating to Landmark

As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on donations to support our work. We couldn’t have rescued over 200 Landmarks without the support of people like you. Your support saves historic buildings in danger of being lost forever and makes them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore buildings like this, or it could offer opportunities to young people to experience history firsthand, through our open days and free stays for study groups. We would be delighted if you felt able to add a gift to your booking today. We can’t wait to stay in touch and show you the difference your support has made. Thank you!
