We are delighted to have received significant recognition for both Cobham Dairy and Winsford Cottage Hospital in the Royal Institute of British Architect’s Regional Awards 2022.
Winsford Cottage Hospital has won the RIBA South West Regional Award and the special RIBA South West Conservation Award, while our charity has additionally won the RIBA South West Client of the Year Award.
Commending Winsford’s restoration, RIBA noted:
‘This fine and handsome building has been sensitively and intelligently brought back to life thanks to a committed architect, experienced client, skilled contractors and dedicated local community. Winsford Cottage Hospital’s future should be safeguarded by the Landmark Trust for future generations to enjoy.’
Cobham Dairy has meanwhile won both the RIBA South East Regional Award and the RIBA South East Conservation Award.
‘Great care has been taken, including a new copper roof for out-of-sight areas, and the restoration of the building’s unusual painted slate cladding… Such commitment is rare and to be celebrated, especially as it has resulted in a building that can now be enjoyed by a wider public.’
The Royal Institute of British Architects is the leading, global professional membership body driving excellence in architecture. RIBA Regional Awards celebrate great architecture across the UK and are judged by panels of local experts in fields including conservation and environmental sustainability. Each building was one of 12 shortlisted per region, with just three respectively receiving special awards.
Each restoration was possible only thanks to our many supporters. We particularly thank the National Lottery Heritage Fund for supporting Winsford, and Ecclesiastical Insurance for matching the first £200,000 raised from other supporters at Cobham Dairy. Many contributed to the success of each project, including the teams at benjamin+beauchamp architects ltd and contractor J.E. Stacey, plus Purcells and Colman Contractors.
Landmark’s director Dr Anna Keay OBE reflects:
‘We are thrilled to receive such a wonderful clutch of RIBA awards for our revival of Cobham Dairy and Winsford Cottage Hospital, creations of two of Britain’s most brilliant architects, James Wyatt and CFA Voysey. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, they have now been given new life and can be inhabited and enjoyed be anyone. We are delighted to have the Landmark Trust’s work recognised in this way.’
These trophies follow Winsford’s recognition by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors with the national Social Impact award in 2020, and the Georgian Group’s Reuse of a Georgian Building award for Cobham in 2021. Winsford will be open 15-18 July, 9-12 September and 11-14 November, welcoming all for free visits.
