Designed to a scheme by architects Cowper Griffith, the building’s grand contemporary living spaces encased in medieval walls include an open plan kitchen and dining space under the impressive hammerbeam roof of the original Great Hall, and a long, cosy sitting room in the original ‘solar’, with space for all to gather around the fireplace. This exceptionally important house has stood at the southern end of the beautiful Llanthony Valley in the Black Mountains since 1420. Following our complex restoration, it now offers warm, spacious and richly furnished accommodation for eight, in four bedrooms – each with its own bathroom. The kitchen is well-equipped for large groups, with a double range, dishwasher and two fridge-freezers. If your party is even larger, you can also make use of the Bunkhouse next door, offering basic sleeping space for up to 12 people.

Our guests say

‘It was the perfect house for our family Christmas. The location was great with many beautiful and challenging walks. The house had so much to offer, a relaxing upstairs living room with wood burner, an atmospheric dining room with open fire and a fully functional kitchen with classic kitchen table. Also loved the ground floor parlour room to sit and read. The bathrooms were generous and luxurious.’

Cavendish Hall, Suffolk

Cavendish Hall 1200x800.jpg

Indulge in a weekend of Regency splendour at this gracious country house in Suffolk, built by Thomas Hallifax in around 1800 for one of his sons. Set on the outskirts of a picturesque village, surrounded by the very landscapes that inspired Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable alike, Cavendish Hall is an elegant family home with space for 12 in six beautiful bedrooms. This house has several accessible features, including level access throughout the ground floor, including a twin bedroom with an adjoined shower wet-room. There’s a large, light-filled breakfast room adjoining the well-equipped kitchen, a grand dining room, and two cosy living rooms with open fires.

Our guests say

‘It was a lovely experience to stay in a property of this size, it was warm and felt cosy even though the rooms were large. I personally loved the rooms at the top of the house because of the light lanterns and having one in a bathroom with a roll top bath felt very special.’

Goddards, Surrey

This beautiful Arts and Crafts era home was built by architect Edwin Lutyens, considered one of his most important early houses. Approached by little sunken lanes, and with a garden laid out in collaboration with the celebrated garden designer Gertrude Jekyll, Goddards is a beautifully bucolic hideaway for 12 in the heart of Surrey. The house, which has its own indoor skittle alley, was once ‘a Home of Rest to which ladies of small means might repair for holiday’. After many years spent as a family home, it’s now back to its original purpose as a restorative country retreat, with eight bedrooms, a large living room and kitchen equipped with two dishwashers, a double range and two fridges, making it an ideal venue for group gatherings.

Our guests say

‘Our family gathered at Goddards to celebrate two landmark birthdays. It was our best holiday to date! The house and grounds were exquisite. It was absolutely magical and we didn’t want to return to normality. The days seemed endless with so much to discover. Thank you, Landmark Trust.’

Woodspring Priory, Somerset

Woodspring Priory 1200x800.jpg

Steps from the sea, surrounded by fields and streams on a protected headland, Woodspring Priory is often described by our guests as an ‘enchanting’ place to stay. Built in honey-coloured stone, which glows golden when the sun sets over the Severn Estuary, the building holds 900 years of history within its storied walls – and some pretty good ones in our guest logbook, too. Historic grandeur and cosy comfort jostle along nicely together in the spacious holiday accommodation, where eight people and two dogs will find fine lodgings in four bedrooms, and a warm fire to gather around. The farmhouse-style kitchen has a range and two fridge freezers, and a large table to gather around. The priory has its own walled garden - once cloisters -  and an orchard, as well as a tithe barn and even a small museum telling of the building’s history and restoration.

Our guests say

‘This is the second time that we have stayed at the Priory. It was again perfect for our group of 8 - ranging from 3 to 73. There is plenty of space, both inside and outside, for everyone to enjoy both building and gardens in their own way. The upgrades to facilities and equipment in both the bathroom and kitchen are sympathetic and effective. We would highly recommend this property.’

Astley Castle, Warwickshire

Astley Castle 1200x800.jpg

Linked to three English queens, tangled up in the Wars of the Roses, and later inspiring writer George Eliot – Astley Castle has always been something of a big deal. 12 years ago, we completed the rescue and restoration of this hugely significant Landmark, thrusting it into the 21st century with a radical, RIBA-award winning design. Now it’s a luxurious holiday home for eight, combining the thrill of modern architecture with the atmosphere of an ancient, moated manor house and over 1000 years of fascinating history. The huge, open plan kitchen and living space is on the first floor, and the bedrooms and bathrooms on the ground floor. A lift enables easy access for all. In the warmer months, the open sided dining area within the ruined castle walls is an atmospheric space for family feasts.

Our guests say

‘An astonishing reworking of a truly historic ruin. Wonderful huge space to stay with family for Christmas and incredible views past enormous expanses of modern glazing and through the ruined tracery beyond in all directions. Each aspect framing a giant tree, or the adjacent church or the sunrise silhouetting the cedars outside the moat. Wood burning stove inside and fireplace in a ruined chimney outside added to the atmosphere.’
