How did you find out about The Landmark Trust?
Kathy: A friend, Mrs Jane Pearce, worked at the White House and she lived a short distance away in the same village as me. We used to talk about her work. When she heard of a vacancy she let me know. That was in 2014. I applied and started at Bromfield in July of that year.
Ann: A friend worked at the White House and occasionally I went to help her. When Bromfield opened in 1993, I took on the job of housekeeper. Not a lot has changed over the 23 years although when I started visitors brought their own bedding!
What do you like about Bromfield Priory Gatehouse?
Kathy: I think it’s great that you can arrive by car and not have to use the car again. You can easily walk into Ludlow or catch a bus at the end of the road. There is an excellent food hall and other outlets serving fresh food just a short walk away.
Ann: Bromfield is in a good location for visiting Ludlow. The estate walk into Ludlow is lovely with a special view of the castle as you arrive.
What types of people stay here?
Kathy:Bromfield is very popular with families who are meeting up with friends or relatives locally. Also groups of friends who have come to explore Ludlow for its history and reputation for excellent food.
Ann: We have returning visitors because they like the area, which is great for walking. Families with relatives at university use it to meet up due to its central location. We also have a lot of visitors from London.
What’s your favourite room?
Kathy: I love the first floor bedroom. It has a dual aspect and a view of the church. It catches the sunlight which gives it a relaxing feel. I find it very peaceful.
Ann: My favourite room is the second floor living area. It's one large room with the kitchen to one end. It's a great space for socialising.
