Lifts, ladders and moving staircases
Over the past few months, works have really been pressing on at Calverley Old Hall. The lift has now been fitted and is in the process of being tested, stunning solid wood doors have been added and beautiful oak flooring laid. The building is starting to come alive.
However, whilst some things have been added, others have been taken away! As anyone who has been on site for one of our hard hat tours might know, the staircase in the main cross-passage area of the building has moved around rather a lot over the past two years. We started off with a staircase against the left-hand wall, a remnant of the old cottages which led upstairs to two bedrooms and a bathroom. With the addition of a replacement upper floor, a new temporary staircase was put in place in the cross-passage, which has remained for the duration of the project so far. Now, we are ready for the next (and final!) exciting stage in this area, with the fitting of a new, bespoke timber staircase which will form the central focal point of this area of the building. For now, though, it’s back to ladder access only!
Stay tuned for a further update once the staircase is installed.
